Message anything from an aluminum coke can to an aluminum engine block can be welded by GTAW (or tig welding)

If someone told you the limitation on aluminum was around .10 , then they might have been reffering to mig welders only.

With mig welding, If you get too small and try to run a spool of aluminum wire then it will most likely birdnest at the drive rollers, even if it doesnt, then you fight it all the way throught the cable to the gun because if you dont keep you cable extremely straight you get feed problems on the smaller diameter wire.

the solution for mig welders is to get and external spool gun that feeds direct from the gun, so there is no real distance between the spool and the work.
